7822 Earning Her Keep - 10/10/2022

Foxcote continues to fly her flag at the WSR as the end of the season approaches. She has been fairly busy recently and is reportedly running well. Though we never take that for granted. We know how well the team down there look after her.

7822 will potentially be going on her travels again this winter, watch this space!

7822 Back in Traffic at the West Somerset Railway. 20/7/22

​

7822 is now back in traffic after a few running repairs and we are looking forward to the summer all being well. We have had work on the pistons and valves done and everything has been tested. There was a bit of packing work to do on one of the piston glands but that is now sorted. 

​

Take a trip to the WSR and enjoy some Manor haulage to the seaside!

AGM rescheduling.

​

Sadly we are looking to cancel our AGM and reschedule later in the year. The meeting has received very little support and it is unlikely that we would have a quorum. The rescheduled meeting will be online and will be published to members in due course.

February 2022 - Sad News

 

The FMS is sad to report the passing of our honorary Vice President, Peter Summers MBE at the age of 92. Peter played a pivotal role in the fundraising that allowed the FMS to purchase 7822 from Barry Scrapyard in the 1970's. Mr Summers also had a  hand in the saving of 9017 and also job creation in North East Wales through his work in the steel industry. He leaves a lasting legacy of great achievements.

January 2022 - Winter Program of Work

The quiet part of the year is probably the busiest for our engineers and for the fitters at the West Somerset Railway. Annual examinations of the boiler, and no shortage of niggles to address. Also the periodical stuff that comes around. Luckily at the FMS we have Martin Fuller and Dave Owen who have 7822’s engineering close to heart. This winter the bogie will come out for the main springs to be replaced which are life expired. There are various fittings in the cab to be tidied up or replaced and the screw reverser will be overhauled too.
